Inspection of the TOKE route done from 10.00 to 16.30 , by a snowmobile with trailer - 2 people , distance - 162 km. Conditions: temperature of - 8 ° C , visibility - not less than 10 km , the wind - south- east 2 m / s . Results: the entire distance traveled and within visual sight - even solid ice covered with snow 3-10 cm exceptions : ...
1). Petrozavodsk along the coast in 200 m from the shore crack width 1-1.5 m laced fresh ice ( open water is not observed ) crack normally crossed by snowmobile. 2). West of the island Ivanovski , for about 2 km - uneven ice field. 3). About 4 km east of the island of Ivanovo crack width meter and a half , laced with fresh ice thickness of about 10 cm over the entire foreseeable . Normally passed both on foot and by snowmobile . 4). On the approach to Garnitski few small frozn cracks with a small hummocks. 5). On the approaches to the Assumption Church ( about 5 km) there are areas with snow-water gruel on the ice surface . Passable by snowmobile , but when driving with a kite may cause possible wetting and icing of skis. We strongly recommend to carry scrapers for skis (!) . We consider moving seaward the check point to make your life easier. Will let you know not later 12/2. 6). Sujsar Approaching from the north- west ( closer to shore ) and pass through the strait between the mainland and Sujsar small areas with a snow-water porridge. Passed on a snowmobile without difficulty. 7). Southerly from Suisar fiels of uneven ice small hummocks lasted for abt 2 km
General findings : 95% of inspected distance is a flat boring snow- ice the plane . Thickness of ice according to fishermen's polls ( near the coast ) - about 20 cm The best surface - at a distance from the shore. Reason: at the shore, in bays and straits ice stood before, but it began to accumulate snow on the surface, which : a). prevented ice buildup b). its weight helped oust the water , resulting in a snow - and water porridge . Away from the coast the ice , though younger, but as minimally covered with snow, normally accrued in a thickness greater than coastal ice.
Today the whole distance ( see track ) is normally passable for kiter . One question - the transfer point from Kondopoga southeast to reduce suffering with icing. To be declared not later than 12/2 .
